You may or may not have heard of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT), which is a tool for physical healing and release of emotions associated with limiting beliefs and other energetic blocks. It has become increasingly known and applied in many areas, including but not limited to career, success, health and relationships. As a case in point, Jack Canfield, co-author of the Chicken Soup for the Soul series and a leading teacher in spiritual success principles, recently released a book on the topic with his co-author Pamela Bruner, Tapping Into Ultimate Success: How to Overcome Any Obstacle and Skyrocket Your Results.
This article is intended to introduce EFT briefly. If you’re interested in learning more, there is a telesummit hosted by The Tapping Solution that just started this past Monday and will go through next week. You can get more information and sign up here for this free telesummit to learn from leading experts.
What is Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)?
EFT is a very simple yet potent healing technique that combines tapping on energy points in our body with positive psychology. This technique is also a really fast and dramatic way to let go of the negative emotions blocking our energy flow. After all, according to Gary Craig, the founder of EFT, all negative emotions are caused by a disruption of the energy flow in our body. Even physical ailments are ultimately tied to energetic blockages. Nick Ortner of The Tapping Solution says that tapping is a great way to process deep emotions and old beliefs, starting with where we are and what we’re ready to do – very consistent with my REACH philosophy. If we aren’t yet ready to let go of a tenacious belief completely, that’s perfectly fine. We can just begin with being consciously willing to detach from that belief and to work on letting it go progressively. When we are willing, this technique can really speed up the release and healing process.
EFT involves tapping on a number of meridian points in the energy system in our body, while accepting ourselves unconditionally. By applying gentle yet firm pressure to these points through tapping, it triggers the release of stress, anxiety, pain, discomfort and other negative energy trapped in our body. Together with verbally acknowledging the condition troubling us without judgment and allowing whatever emotions we have about it to surface, we gradually release these emotions and the associated limiting beliefs.
Again, our willingness to let go of the negative emotions and beliefs is important. As we continue to tap and affirm our unconditional self-acceptance, we stimulate more release of the trapped negative energy, until it’s completely cleared from our system. In turn, we allow passage for the flow of an improved condition. Our mind follows by looking for and registering supporting evidence of the improvement, thereby paving the way for new empowering beliefs. In short, we can tap our way out of the roadblocks to our dreams and into creating new affirming beliefs that are aligned with where we want to go.
Because EFT honors where we are emotionally about the condition troubling us, it allows us to acknowledge and accept the latter without pushing against it or trying to suppress it. As such, this technique is less likely to elicit an undercurrent of resistance within us, thereby allowing our bodies to relax and gradually let go of the trapped negative energy. This is why EFT is great for working with big fears that may take a little time to process and dissolve progressively.
